Renault-Nissan, Caterham to Co-Produce Sports Car

Renault’s sports car caught made a splash big enough to justify production, or so it seems.
Last May, the Renault Alpine A110-50 concept was unveiled boasting a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 powerplant with 400 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.
The Renault-Nissan alliance is currently in talks with Caterham to co-produce a car set to resurrect the Alpine name. The new sports car will be based on the A110-50 concept and the joint venture would actually produce two models: An Alpine-badged version sold by Renault-Nissan and another for Caterham itself.
Renault-Nissan originally planned to produce its vehicle with Lotus, but with the British automaker’s future looking uncertain, the alliance began negotiations with Caterham.
If everything does go as planned, we could see a production model within the next couple of years. But chances are, it won’t make its way to American shores anytime soon.
